About this position

Dalhousie University’s Resilience Research Centre is inviting applications for a one-year, full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position in Social and Structural Determinants of Youth Health in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Jan Holtge on a mixed-methods research project funded by Research Nova Scotia. The project aims to identify the unique characteristics of communities that excel in comprehensive youth health resilience among young people aged 12–19 years. This is the second phase of a sequential study that builds on administrative health data to compare communities with exceptionally high and low levels of healthcare use and recorded diagnoses among youth across Nova Scotia.

Research activities include building relationships with local and provincial stakeholders, co-researching with youth advisors, recruiting participants, conducting a quantitative survey study and participatory mapping, analyzing mixed-methods data, organizing meetings and workshops, supporting community outreach, preparing academic publications and research reports, and supervising research assistants.

Applicants must have completed, or be ABD in, a PhD within the last five years in a related field such as social work, sociology, or psychology. The posting also asks for demonstrated experience recruiting youth, empirical social research, quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis, a strong publication record, and excellent English communication, organization, and project management skills.

The position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with an anticipated start date of January 11, 2027. The salary is $62,000. Applications close on 2026-11-06.
