About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow in Spectroscopy at Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, the Netherlands.
This postdoc sits at the intersection of bioimaging, biooptics, spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, X-ray fluorescence, and seaweed ecology. The successful candidate will work in the Marine Biodiversity research group on a multimodal workflow that combines RGB images, hyperspectral imaging, and X-ray fluorescence mapping of herbarium specimens from the Naturalis collection. The project aims to connect sensor measurements with biological meaning, support species identification, study morphological variation, and analyze heavy metal accumulation in seaweed specimens.
The role is based at Naturalis Biodiversity Center, a national research and knowledge institute with major biodiversity collections and an international research network. You will work with Rita Pucci and Luna van der Loos and join a community of PhD candidates and postdocs. The position includes opportunities to publish, present at conferences, teach, mentor students, and collaborate with internal and external partners.
Eligibility highlights include a completed PhD and expertise in computational sciences, life sciences, or a related field, ideally with a strong foundation in optics and bioimaging analysis. Required experience includes physical optics, hyperspectral imaging, camera calibration, spectroscopy, and bioimaging data analysis, plus strong English proficiency.
