About this position

The Neuronal Subtypes of Memory group at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience, part of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Systems Neuroscience.

This project focuses on learning and memory in the entorhinal-hippocampal loop, using novel subtype-specific genetic tools to study how information is transferred during memory formation and recall. The work combines electrophysiology and/or imaging in behaving animals, with an emphasis on circuit mechanisms, neuronal subtypes, and brain dynamics.

The position is a 4-year postdoctoral appointment. Salary is normally NOK 633,400 per year before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority, and the role may include courses within educational competence and possible teaching/career promotion duties.

Eligibility highlights include experience recording neural activity from behaving animals, a strong publication record, and excellent English communication skills. Preferred experience includes behavioral analysis, memory research, programming (e.g. Matlab or Python), and evidence of ability to obtain extramural funding. A completed PhD is required before starting, or documentation of expected submission/completion if still finishing.

Applications must be submitted electronically via Jobbnorge.no by 2026-08-23. Required documents include transcripts and diplomas, CV, doctoral thesis or draft, research plan, academic works, possible recommendation letters, and contact information for three referees. The position is based in Trondheim, Norway.
