About this position

Two-year postdoctoral opportunity in theoretical and computational condensed-matter physics at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand. The project focuses on odd-frequency superfluidity, a challenging topic in quantum many-body physics, with emphasis on developing and studying models that may be relevant to ultracold atoms.

The successful candidate will work with Professor Joachim Brand and an international team of collaborators. The research will use quantum Monte Carlo, effective field theories, and other theoretical/numerical methods, and will contribute to the open-source codebase Rimu.jl. There is also an opportunity to help supervise a PhD student funded through the same project.

This is a full-time fixed-term postdoctoral role based at Massey’s Auckland campus and linked to the Te Whai Ao – Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonics and Quantum Technology. The position is funded by the Marsden Fund of New Zealand. Salary is listed at NZ$86,113–NZ$89,088 depending on experience, with additional benefits including employer superannuation contribution, extra university holidays, and subsidised healthcare.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in theoretical or computational condensed-matter physics or a related field, publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and strong experience in quantum many-body theory, ultracold atomic gases, quantum Monte Carlo, scientific coding, and high-performance computing. Experience with Julia is preferred.

The application deadline is 2026-06-02. Applicants should use the Massey University recruitment portal to apply. Further enquiries can be directed to [email protected].
