About this position
Indiana University is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Harvey Lab within the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington. The lab focuses on the synthesis and spectroscopy of colloidal inorganic nanomaterials, especially binary and ternary transition metal oxides, chalcogenides, and pnictides. Research directions include developing new synthetic routes for nanocrystal compositions and characterizing their electronic, optical, magnetic, and thermal properties.
The position is especially suited to candidates with expertise in ultrafast optical spectroscopy, including transient absorption and time-resolved fluorescence. The successful applicant will help set up, maintain, and improve transient absorption and magnetic circular dichroism instruments, serve as a super-user on one instrument, train other group members, and contribute to new research directions in the lab. Experience with optical setup modification/building, Spectra Physics lasers, Ultrafast Systems Helios/EOS, OPAs, magneto-optical measurements, and nanocrystalline materials is preferred.
Applicants must have a PhD in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or materials science/engineering by or before August 2026. The role also emphasizes mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, maintaining good record keeping, writing SOPs, and publishing research results. The appointment is for 12 months initially, with a possible 12-month extension based on performance.
Funding includes a competitive salary of $50,000 plus benefits. Applications are reviewed upon receipt, and the best consideration date is 2026-06-22. To apply, candidates must submit a CV, letter of application, and three references through the portal, along with a short paragraph describing a potential research project aligned with the Harvey Lab’s interests.
