About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow in Welding Process–Performance Relationships for Recycled Aluminium Alloys at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway.
This 3-year postdoctoral fellowship is part of SFI FAST – Future Aluminium Structures, a national research centre led by NTNU in collaboration with SINTEF and industrial partners. The project focuses on welding, recycled aluminium alloys, process–performance correlation, materials characterization, fatigue and fracture behavior, and monitoring and control for sustainable fabrication of aluminium structures.
The successful candidate will work on development of arc and solid-state welding parameters, in-situ monitoring and defect mitigation, microstructure and mechanical performance evaluation, and data-assisted analysis linking process signals to performance. The role also includes collaboration with PhD and MSc projects, dissemination in journals and workshops, and proposal development for national and EU funding.
Eligibility highlights: a completed PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Production Technology, Welding Engineering, or a related area; documented research in welding processes; experience with material testing, welding metallurgy, and experimental welding; strong English; and a good publication record. Preferred experience includes aluminium alloys, robotic welding, weld monitoring systems, modelling, industrial experience, and Nordic language skills.
Funding: fully funded postdoctoral research fellowship with a salary of NOK 633,400 per year before tax (depending on qualifications and seniority). The position is conditional on external funding.
Deadline: 2026-11-02.
How to apply: Submit your application through Jobbnorge.no with CV, diplomas, transcripts, thesis, project outline, motivation letter, publications, and referee contacts. All documents must be in English.
