About this position
HIIT (the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology) is advertising Postdoctoral Fellow positions in Computer Science hosted by Aalto University and the University of Helsinki in the Helsinki metropolitan area, Finland. The call welcomes applications across core computer science areas, including algorithms and theory, artificial intelligence, computational science, human-centric computing, and software systems.
This is a strong opportunity for early-career researchers who have recently completed, or will soon complete, a PhD and want to build an independent research profile in a high-impact environment. The positions are intended to support career development through collaboration with one or more HIIT faculty supervisors, with matching based on mutual research interests.
Funding: the positions are fully funded and include salary plus travel/publication costs. Salaries follow the host universities’ pay scales. Appointments can last up to three years, with flexible starting dates negotiated individually.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold or expect to shortly receive a PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field; prior information technology experience is preferred, ideally with publications in top-tier venues. Strong English communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team are required.
How to apply: submit the required materials in English via the Workday eRecruitment system. The application must include a cover letter, a 3–5 page preliminary research plan, a CV with publication list, doctoral transcript and degree certificate (or a completion plan if the PhD is not yet finished), and contact details for 2–3 senior referees.
Deadline: 4 October 2026 at 23:59 UTC+03:00.
Contact the HIIT coordinator at [email protected] for questions. More information is available on the HIIT website.
