About this position

Yale University School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow/Postdoctoral Associate in the Laboratory of Dr. Engin Deniz to study neurogenesis and the developmental mechanisms underlying congenital malformations, including congenital hydrocephalus, neurodevelopmental defects, and epilepsy.

The lab uses gene-editing tools in Xenopus to model patient gene-associated birth defects and then investigates the cell and molecular mechanisms of these novel developmental disease genes. The project sits at the intersection of developmental biology, neuroscience, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and functional genomics.

The successful candidate will design and conduct research projects, develop and apply experimental approaches to study neural patterning and gene regulation, analyze data, present findings, prepare manuscripts, and contribute to collaborative work in a supportive environment with access to advanced imaging, genetic, biochemical, cell culture, human clinical samples, and an extensive Xenopus facility.

Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in a relevant field. Experience with Xenopus, zebrafish, molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, or sequencing-based approaches is desirable. The position is full-time and in person at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut, United States.

Funding: annual salary is $68,500 or commensurate with experience.

How to apply: email Engin Deniz via [email protected] with a CV, a brief statement of research experience/interests/career goals, and 2–3 reference contacts. The deadline is 2027-01-01.

What's required

Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology, neuroscience, or a related field. Strong problem-solving skills, scientific curiosity, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Experience with Xenopus, zebrafish or related aquatic model systems, molecular or cellular biology and biochemistry, or functional genomics/sequencing-based approaches is particularly desirable, though candidates from different scientific backgrounds are also encouraged if interested in neurogenesis and congenital malformations.

How to apply

Email Engin Deniz at [email protected] with a CV, a brief statement of research experience/interests/career goals, and 2-3 reference contacts. Applications should be sent to Lisa Palmieri in the Department of Pediatrics.
