About this position

CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Digital Integration for Farming Systems Science is an early-career research opportunity at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Canberra, ACT, Australia.

The project focuses on agricultural data science, farming systems, crop systems, mixed crop-livestock systems, modelling, simulation, and artificial intelligence. The successful fellow will explore novel ways to record, manage, and analyse diverse agricultural data from field surveys, ground sensors, proximal sensors, UAVs, and satellites, then use these data to build models that improve farm performance, decision-making, and understanding of dryland farming systems.

Key research themes include data integration, process modelling, systems performance indicators, risk and constraint analysis, and innovative approaches to agricultural science. The role is designed for scientists and engineers who have completed a doctorate and have less than three years of relevant research experience.

Eligibility highlights: a doctorate or near-completion of a PhD in a relevant area such as Agronomy, Crop or Livestock Science, Genome Biology, or Computer Science; experience applying data science to agriculture or related fields; theoretical understanding of modelling/simulation/AI; strong communication skills; publication record; creativity and innovation; experience with agricultural modelling platforms; and agricultural fieldwork or equivalent real-world experience.

Funding and terms: specified term of 3 years, full-time, with salary AU$103k–AU$113k per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus 15.4% superannuation.

Location: Canberra, ACT, Australia.

Application window: applications close 4 October 2026 at 11:00pm AEDT. Apply online with a CV and a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) addressing the selection criteria.
