About this position
The Image Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University is offering the IMC/AMC Postdoctoral Fellowship, a 12-month postdoctoral research opportunity beginning July 1, 2027.
This fellowship is jointly supported by The Image Centre (IMC) and the Archive of Modern Conflict (AMC) and is designed for advanced research in the history of photography, with a particular emphasis on press, documentary, and vernacular photography from the nineteenth century to the present. The fellow will work across two major photography collections and contribute to the academic life of the School of Image Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University, including the Film and Photography Preservation and Collections Management graduate program.
Funding includes an annual salary of $70,000 plus benefits, along with a generous research stipend for one month of research in London, UK. An office space at The Image Centre is provided for the duration of the fellowship.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in Art History, Visual Culture, Media Studies, History, Museum Studies, Photography, or a related discipline at the time of application. ABD candidates are not eligible. The successful candidate should have a strong research record, an active archival or collections-based research agenda, excellent communication and public presentation skills, and demonstrated interest in photography history and lens-based media. Teaching, curatorial practice, and public-facing scholarly programming are considered assets.
