About this position
Postdoctoral Fellowships in RF Threat Detection for Road Vehicles at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in the IRC for Smart Mobility and Logistics Engineering (IRC SMLE).
This opening is for up to two postdoctoral fellows working on automotive cybersecurity, RF engineering, automotive radar, vehicle-to-everything, satellite navigation integrity, FPGA, and RF SoC development. The group is building hardware that detects jamming, spoofing, replay, and other RF threats in real time on the vehicle, rather than only analyzing captures offline.
Profile 1: RF front end focuses on receiver chain and antenna design across vehicle radio interfaces, automotive radar interference/spoofing detection from the sensor chain, and measurement/over-the-air testing on an instrumented vehicle. Profile 2: FPGA and RF SoC focuses on real-time detection implemented in the signal chain, integrity monitoring for navigation and V2X links, and fitting the solution within automotive power, size, and latency constraints.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in electrical, microwave, radar, communications, or embedded systems engineering depending on profile; genuine hands-on hardware experience is mandatory; purely simulation-based profiles are not suitable; PhD must be within the last 3 years and from a QS Top 500 institution; strong publication record is required, with an average of 4 Q1/Q2 journal papers per year and quartile/year details shown for each paper; patents and automotive/CAN-bus exposure are a plus.
Funding: approximately tax-free SAR 15,000 monthly salary, SAR 500 transportation allowance, and housing support of about SAR 3,700 per month paid as a lump sum at the start of the year, totaling roughly SAR 19,200 per month. Additional benefits include annual family tickets, campus medical services, and conference support.
How to apply: email your CV, one-page research statement, and two best papers to [email protected]. State clearly which profile you are applying for, or both if you genuinely cover both. Deadline: 31 August 2026.
