About this position
The Center for Computational Biology at the Simons Foundation’s Flatiron Institute is recruiting a postdoctoral Flatiron Research Fellow in Biomolecular Design. This is a research-focused opportunity for candidates with backgrounds in computational biology, biochemistry, biophysics, applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, statistics, or related fields.
The Biomolecular Design Group develops computational tools to design natural polymers and synthetic heteropolymers built from noncanonical chemical building blocks, including heterochiral cyclic peptides and peptoid foldamers. Research directions include open-source software for macromolecular motion, physics-based simulation combined with machine learning, improved approximation methods such as implicit solvation and coarse-graining, molecular modeling for quantum computers and quantum annealers, and molecule design with potential medical applications.
Fellows are based in New York City, United States, and work within an interdisciplinary environment that integrates theory, computation, and experimentation. The role includes independent and collaborative research, scientific software development, participation in seminars and workshops, manuscript and presentation preparation, and mentoring/supporting students and visitors.
Funding: full-time annual compensation of USD $95,000, plus benefits. The initial appointment is generally for two years, with possible renewal for a third year. Subsidized housing within walking distance of CCB may be available.
Eligibility highlights: a Ph.D. in a relevant field is required, along with strong skills in mathematical modeling, scientific computation, algorithm/software development, data analysis, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Application: submit a cover letter, CV, research statement (max 3 pages), and two recommendation letters via Interfolio. Applications for 2027 start dates are reviewed beginning November 2026 and considered on a rolling basis until filled; full consideration is recommended by 2026-11-30.
