About this position
The University of Helsinki, Department of Chemistry, is recruiting a postdoctoral or doctoral researcher in photocatalytic radical chemistry at the newly established Lahdenperä Group. The project is based at the Kumpula campus and focuses on developing new concepts for controlling radical reactivity in photocatalytic transformations, especially through hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) at surfaces and interfaces.
Research topics include photocatalysis, radical chemistry, organic chemistry, mechanistic studies of radical reactions, surface functionalization, interface chemistry, and the design and synthesis of organic molecules. The postdoctoral researcher is also expected to contribute to student supervision and future funding applications.
Eligibility: postdoctoral applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry or a closely related field by the start date, or be close to completion. Doctoral applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in chemistry or a closely related discipline that qualifies them for doctoral studies at the University of Helsinki. Experience in synthetic organic chemistry, photocatalysis, radical chemistry, HAT, reaction mechanism studies, or flow chemistry is valued. Excellent written and oral English skills are required.
Funding and terms: the position is fixed-term for 12 months with a possibility of extension. Salary is approximately 3900–4200 €/month for the postdoctoral role and 2600–2800 €/month for the doctoral role. The university also offers employee benefits and support for grant/fellowship applications.
Application: submit a CV (with publication list if applicable), a concise motivation letter, and the relevant degree certificate. Indicate your desired starting date. If interviewed, you will need to provide contact details for two references. Applications are reviewed immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is found; the stated deadline is 2026-10-16.
