About this position

Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT), Xiamen University Malaysia, is advertising multiple research opportunities under the primary supervision of Prof. Dr. Wee-Jun Ong.

The project focuses on tunable metal-based electrocatalysts and photocatalysts for paired CO₂ conversion and waste plastic/biomass valorization, with additional work on converting wastewater nitrate into ammonia as a sustainable hydrogen carrier. The research combines nanomaterials synthesis, in-situ/operando characterization, density functional theory, AI-assisted modelling, and techno-economic analysis.

Open positions include postdoctoral research fellows cum executive roles and postgraduate research students at the Master’s and PhD levels. The call is for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 intakes, with an application deadline of 30 September 2026 (open until filled).

The post states that only Malaysian applicants are welcome, especially those with backgrounds in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Catalysis, Computational Chemistry, and related disciplines. Applicants are asked to review the recruitment posters for detailed eligibility criteria.

To apply, send your CV, cover letter, certificates, transcripts, research statement, and other documents to Prof. Ong at [email protected]. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interview. The opportunity is linked to a major research grant and offers access to facilities at CONNECT, Xiamen University Malaysia, Xiamen University (China), and Korea University.
