About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is offering a postdoctoral position in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Retrosynthesis Reaction Prediction. The project sits at the intersection of computational chemistry, cheminformatics, machine learning, and synthetic chemistry, with the aim of building advanced AI models that can automate and improve retrosynthetic analysis for complex molecules.
The successful postdoctoral researcher will develop and implement ML methods such as graph neural networks and transformer-based models to predict retrosynthetic pathways, reaction outcomes, reaction conditions, and plausible synthetic routes. The work is directly relevant to chemistry, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and green chemistry, and is intended to support more efficient and sustainable industrial synthesis.
Key responsibilities include curating and managing reaction datasets from literature, patents, and proprietary sources; integrating retrosynthesis tools with cheminformatics and molecular modeling software; collaborating with synthetic chemists to validate predicted routes experimentally; and contributing to high-impact publications, conferences, workshops, and mentoring activities within the research team.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Computer Science, or a related field. Strong experience in machine learning or deep learning for reaction prediction or retrosynthesis is required, together with proficiency in Python and familiarity with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX. Experience with RDKit, Open Babel, and chemical reaction databases such as Reaxys, USPTO, or Pistachio is expected. A strong publication record and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment are also important.
Preferred experience includes graph-based learning, attention mechanisms, transformer architectures, computer-aided synthesis planning tools such as AiZynthFinder, ASKCOS, or IBM RXN, reaction yield optimization, quantum chemistry, molecular simulations, cloud computing, and high-performance computing.
Applications should be submitted as a single PDF containing a cover letter, detailed CV with publications, and contact details for at least two academic referees. The deadline is not specified in the posting.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
How to apply
Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
