About this position

The Charleston Programme at Charles University, Prague, offers an exceptional opportunity for postdoctoral researchers seeking to advance their academic careers in a vibrant, internationally connected environment. Supported by the European Commission’s MSCA COFUND initiative (Horizon Europe), this programme provides 24-month postdoctoral fellowships for researchers from a wide range of disciplines, including environmental science, biology, chemistry, and many others. Fellows will benefit from specialised training, mentoring, and a unique 3–6 month secondment at a non-academic institution, fostering intersectoral collaboration and broadening professional experience.

Applicants are invited to propose their own research projects, ideally aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that their work contributes to sustainable impact and global challenges. The programme is open to candidates who have obtained their Ph.D. within the last 8 years (with exceptions for parental leave), have not resided in the Czech Republic for more than 12 months in the past 36 months, and are not current employees of Charles University. The university is committed to gender equality and actively encourages applications from women and scientists at risk.

Fellows will have access to Charles University’s extensive resources, interdisciplinary research environment, and international networks. The programme includes a competitive stipend, comprehensive training, and mentoring tailored to postdoctoral researchers. The secondment component allows fellows to gain valuable experience in non-academic settings, enhancing their skills and employability.

The application deadline is 1 June 2026, 2 PM (Prague time). Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend the informational webinar on 19 March 2026 for guidance on the application process. For full programme details, eligibility criteria, and application forms, visit the Charleston Programme website at https://cuni.cz/UKEN-2185.html. For inquiries, contact [email protected].

This fellowship is ideal for ambitious postdoctoral researchers seeking to make a sustainable impact, expand their skills, and collaborate across sectors in one of Europe’s leading academic institutions.
