About this position

Postdoctoral position in 3D Artificial Intelligence for Biological Imaging at Ohio State University, within the Imageomics Institute and its 3D Convergence Working Group.

The postdoc will be jointly supervised by Dr. Tanya Berger-Wolf and Murat Maga. The project focuses on turning modern biological imaging data—tomographic volumes, surface meshes, point clouds, and geometric measurements—into quantitative biological measurements for organismal and evolutionary biology.

Core research areas include 3D segmentation, adapting foundation models to volumetric biological data, atlas/template-based segmentation propagation, and evaluation protocols that clearly identify where methods succeed or fail. The role also includes contributing to at least one of the following: 3D shape analysis and geometric ML (meshes, point clouds, landmarks, correspondence, geometric morphometrics) or multimodal and generative approaches linking 3D structure with text and images.

Required background: PhD completed or expected before start in computer science, biomedical engineering, applied math, statistics, a quantitative biological discipline, or a related field; research experience in machine learning or computer vision; strong Python and PyTorch skills; and experience with 3D data.

Preferred experience: volumetric segmentation, foundation model adaptation, geometric deep learning/statistical shape modeling, vision-language or multimodal models, biological or biomedical imaging, HPC/cloud computing, and open-source scientific software.

Position details: one-year, full-time term appointment, available immediately. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until filled.

How to apply: submit a cover letter, CV, a statement of research skills and interests, and contact information for three referees (including your relationship to each) using the application link in the post.
