About this position

Radboud University is advertising a postdoctoral position in the Affective Neuroscience Lab led by Prof. Karin Roelofs at the Behavioural Science Institute in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The role sits within an interdisciplinary, ERC-funded research environment and is embedded in the Faculty of Social Sciences, with close collaboration with the Donders Institute / Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging.

The research theme is affective neuroscience with a strong focus on heart–brain interactions and decision-making under threat. The lab uses a combination of fMRI, MEG, psychophysiology, computational modelling, and transcranial ultrasound stimulation to study approach–avoidance behaviour and causal mechanisms in human behaviour. The postdoc will contribute to these projects while also conducting independent research.

This is a research-and-leadership role: the successful candidate will co-supervise PhD and Master’s students, help coordinate a large interdisciplinary team, assist with ethical applications and ERC reporting, and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, open-science lab culture. The post is especially suitable for candidates who want to build experience in lab management, supervision, and team-based science.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in a relevant field such as cognitive or affective neuroscience, computational psychiatry, human decision sciences, or neuromodulation; expertise in at least one of the following: human neuroimaging (MEG and/or fMRI), computational modelling of behavioural/neural/psychophysiological data, or neuromodulation (preferably transcranial ultrasound stimulation); strong communication and organisational skills; experience supervising Master’s students.

Funding and conditions: the appointment is a temporary one-year contract with a prospect of extension for three years. The position is 0.5 FTE and offers a gross monthly salary of €4,728–€6,433 (salary scale 11), plus holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, extra leave, flexible working arrangements, training opportunities, and other university benefits.

Application deadline: 31 May 2026. Applicants should apply through the university portal, address the letter to Karin Roelofs, and include the documents requested in the application form. The first interviews are scheduled for 16 June, with possible second interviews on 22 or 29 June. The preferred start date is before 1 September 2026.
