About this position
Postdoctoral research position in AI-assisted atomistic modelling of ferroic materials at the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA), part of CSIC–University of Zaragoza, in Zaragoza, Spain.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Yue-Wen Fang on first-principles calculations and advanced computational methods combining density functional theory (DFT) and machine learning. The project focuses on the study of ferroic materials, with particular emphasis on ferroelectrics, lattice dynamics, and phase transitions. The postdoctoral researcher may also collaborate with experimental groups.
This is a full-time temporary postdoc position (37.5 hours/week). The planned starting date is 10 January 2027, although the post states that the date is tentative and the selected candidate is expected to join as soon as possible. The application deadline is 10 November 2026 at 14:00 (Europe/Madrid).
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field. A strong background in ab initio calculations of electronic and phonon properties is required. Desirable experience includes ferroelectricity, anharmonic lattice dynamics, nuclear quantum effects, machine-learning techniques, databases, and Python-based workflows. English proficiency should be good; basic Spanish is also listed.
Applications are open to candidates of all nationalities, subject to applicable employment and immigration requirements. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview. To apply, email Dr. Yue-Wen Fang with a CV including a full publication list, a brief cover letter, and the contact details of two referees. The posting also asks applicants to highlight up to three representative publications and explain their contribution briefly.
Institutional context: INMA is a nanoscience and materials research institute associated with CSIC and the University of Zaragoza. The opportunity is especially relevant for researchers interested in computational condensed matter physics, ferroic phenomena, materials modelling, and data-driven approaches in atomistic simulation.
