About this position

Aarhus University in Denmark is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in the GreenFjords project within the Department of Geoscience. The project is an interdisciplinary study of the long-term environmental and climatic development of five fjord systems in northeast Greenland, including Dove Bay, Ardencaple Fjord, Young Sound, Kong Oscar Fjord, and Scoresby Sound.

The research combines Arctic paleoceanography, marine geophysics, paleoclimate, and geoscience methods to reconstruct glacial history, oceanographic change, climate variability, and ecosystem impacts over the last ~12,000 years. The successful candidate will work with shallow seismic subbottom profiler data, multibeam data, and marine sediment cores to map seafloor morphology, document glacier retreat, investigate hydrography, and assess interactions between glacial and marine processes since the last glaciation.

Core analyses may include sedimentology, geochemistry, and/or micropaleontology. The project allows some flexibility to tailor the exact research focus to the candidate’s expertise and interests. The role also includes supervision of B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. students and some classroom teaching.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a Ph.D. in geoscience or a related field, have experience with reflection seismic and multibeam echosounder data, and have experience in sediment analyses. Strong English communication skills are required.

The position is full-time, fixed term for 2 years, and funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF). Salary and terms follow the Danish collective labour agreement. The work location is Aarhus University, Department of Geoscience, Aarhus, Denmark.

What's required
