About this position
Postdoctoral position at the Chair of Digital Governance, Technical University of Munich (TUM), Munich School of Politics and Public Policy, affiliated with the Content Moderation Lab (a joint TUM and University of Oxford initiative).
The project focuses on content moderation, AI governance, and platform regulation, including fairness and accountability of platform decisions, freedom of speech in the algorithmic age, AI/LLMs in automated moderation, EU Digital Services Act and Section 230 compliance, and behavioural effects of content removal, demotion, and labelling.
Methodologically, the role combines computational social science (text as data, machine learning/LLMs, platform API data collection), survey and experimental methods (conjoint, online/field experiments), and causal inference (difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity, quasi-experimental designs).
The postdoc will develop an independent research agenda, publish in leading peer-reviewed journals, help draft grant applications (DFG, ERC), organise workshops, teach 2 courses per semester at Bachelor's/Master's level, and engage with policy through briefs and public-facing work.
Eligibility: PhD or very close to completion in political science, communication, computational social science, or a closely related discipline; strong computational and/or experimental/causal inference skills; excellent written and spoken English. German is a plus but not required.
