About this position

Postdoctoral position at Université Grenoble Alpes in Grenoble, France, focused on epigenetic regulation, structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, and 3D X-ray imaging of Candida albicans morphotype switching.

The project investigates how the fungal chromatin regulator Bdf1 controls transitions between yeast, pseudohyphal, and hyphal forms, with emphasis on bromodomain recognition of histone acetylation and other acylations, including butyrylation and crotonylation. The work connects metabolism and epigenetic regulation to fungal adaptation and virulence.

The postdoctoral researcher will work across the Institute of Structural Biology (IBS) and the Institute for Advanced Biosciences (IAB), collaborating with teams in structural biology, translational epigenetics, and advanced imaging. The role includes recombinant protein production, structural and biochemical characterization of bromodomain-histone interactions, fluorescence microscopy of Bdf1-chromatin interactions, RNA-seq transcriptomics, and development of high-resolution 3D X-ray imaging workflows for fungal cell biology.

Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant life-sciences discipline. Strong experience in one or more of the following is especially valued: X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, protein purification and interaction analysis, epigenetics/functional genomics, fungal molecular genetics, quantitative microscopy, 3D imaging, image analysis, bioinformatics, scripting, or quantitative data analysis. The ideal candidate should work independently, manage a multi-component project, and collaborate effectively across disciplines.

Appointment details: 24-month fixed-term contract, expected start date 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Gross monthly salary is €2900–€3300 depending on experience. Application deadline: 19 September 2026.
