About this position

IMT Nord Europe is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in experimental fluid dynamics for a project on the advanced experimental characterization of hydrodynamics and mixing in Taylor-Couette flows of complex fluids.

The position is hosted by the Centre for Energy and Environment (CERI EE) and the Complex Fluid Flows Laboratory at IMT Nord Europe in Douai, France. The research focuses on how non-Newtonian rheology changes the onset, structure, and dynamics of hydrodynamic instabilities, and how these effects influence mixing efficiency and transport in Taylor-Couette systems.

The project is strongly experimental and will involve the development and use of advanced optical diagnostics, including methods such as laser-induced fluorescence, to measure flow and scalar fields with spatial and temporal resolution. The work is connected to broader applications in process intensification, including bioprocesses, agro-food, pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, and microfluidics.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD obtained less than 3 years before the expected start date, ideally in fluid mechanics, soft matter, physics, or a related field. Required experience includes experimental fluid mechanics, data processing, and strong English skills. Image processing and rheology are desirable, and programming skills in Matlab or Python are an advantage. French reading/speaking ability is optional but helpful.

Contract and timing: the post is a 13-month CDD starting in October 2026. The application deadline is 2026-07-31.

How to apply: submit your application through the Recruitee portal using the provided link. The application materials requested include a CV, cover letter, and the names and contact details of two references. For scientific questions, contact Tom Lacassagne at [email protected].
