About this position
Uppsala University is advertising a postdoctoral position in halide solid electrolytes, with a research focus on ionic transport, interfacial stability, and battery-relevant materials design. The position is based at the Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory in Sweden, within an active research environment in energy storage and the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre.
The project aims to build a fundamental understanding of stability limitations in halide-based solid electrolytes and to design new compositions that combine high lithium-ion conductivity with improved chemical and electrochemical stability. The work includes synthesis of new solid electrolytes, structural and electrochemical characterization, investigation of degradation mechanisms and interfacial reactions with battery electrode materials, and electrochemical testing in battery cells.
This is a full-time, fixed-term two-year appointment. Teaching may be included for up to 20% of working time. The position is located in Uppsala, Sweden.
Applicants should hold a PhD in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent international degree. Strong prior experience is expected in inorganic solid-state materials synthesis and characterization, including X-ray and neutron diffraction, impedance spectroscopy, handling air- and moisture-sensitive materials under inert atmosphere, and battery-cell assembly/testing. Very good English, strong organization, time management, and basic IT/data-analysis tools are also important. Experience with NMR or XPS is considered an advantage.
Supervisory contacts listed in the post are Xabier Martinez de Irujo-Labalde and Patrik Johansson at Uppsala University. The application deadline is 30 September 2026 at 21:59 UTC. Apply via the Varbi portal using reference UFV-PA 2026/2527.
