About this position

Institut Lumière Matière (CNRS / Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the NanoPhiA project within the French national research programme PEPR DIADEM.

The position focuses on laser synthesis of nanoparticles, plasma diagnostics, optical emission spectroscopy, data analysis, and machine learning. The project aims to build an AI-based predictive framework linking nanoparticle synthesis conditions to resulting structures, combining experimental physics, in-situ diagnostics, and computational modelling.

Research tasks include synthesising nanoparticles by pulsed laser ablation in liquids, developing in-situ optical emission spectroscopy for plasma diagnostics, processing and analysing experimental data to extract physical and chemical parameters, and collaborating with experimental and computational teams.

Eligibility: PhD in physics, physical chemistry, materials science, or a related field. Experience in optical spectroscopy, plasma diagnostics, experimental instrumentation, and optical measurements is expected.

Location: Lyon, France. Duration: 24 months. Funding: salary of €2,300–€2,800 net per month depending on experience.

Supervisor: Prof. David Amans ([email protected]).

Application deadline: 15 November 2026.

To apply, email David Amans with a CV, publication list, cover letter, contact details for 2–3 referees, and your PhD thesis manuscript or doctoral thesis report.
