Postdoctoral Position in Machine Learning and Ultracold-Atom Experiments
This postdoctoral opening combines machine learning and ultracold-atom experiments in roughly equal measure. The work is based at the NIST campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with a joint appointment through the Joint Quantum Institute at the University of Maryland.
The postdoc will be jointly mentored by Justyna Zwolak (ML) and Ian Spielman (cold-atom experiments). Research directions include ML-driven discovery from experimental data, ML-augmented experiment design, and applications of explainable ML methods.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must have Ph.D.-level mastery of modern atomic physics experimental methods. The candidate is also expected to build strong ML expertise during the appointment and work closely with graduate and undergraduate students.
