About this position

A 3-year postdoctoral position is available in the field of RNA synthetic biology and metabolic engineering in yeast at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Denmark. This position is part of the ERC Advanced Grant-funded RIBOTICS project (RNA Origami Technology in Cell Systems), led by Professor Ebbe Sloth Andersen in the Andersen Lab for Biomolecular Design. The lab is internationally recognized for pioneering RNA origami methods and developing RNA-based nanoscale devices for applications in biotechnology and medicine.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary team at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), working alongside other postdocs and PhD students to design, characterize, and experimentally validate RNA origami robots. The main research focus is on developing RNA devices that can control gene expression and metabolic pathways in yeast, with the aim of improving the synthesis of valuable proteins and biochemicals. Key tasks include the rational design of RNA origami devices, structural characterization using cryo-EM and cryo-ET, and functional screening via fluorescence microscopy and microfluidic sorting systems.

The Andersen Lab offers a dynamic research environment with access to world-class infrastructure, including advanced core facilities for cryo-EM and FACS. The department is committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere, with English as the primary language for communication and teaching. Aarhus University provides comprehensive support for international researchers, including relocation assistance and career counselling for accompanying partners.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Molecular Biology or a related discipline and have experience with cloning, gene expression analysis in bacteria and/or yeast, and strong communication skills. Additional expertise in biomolecular design, structural biology, and advanced screening methods is desirable. The position is fully funded for 3 years, with salary and benefits determined by the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

The application deadline is 1 June 2026. Applications should be submitted via the Aarhus University recruitment system and must include a CV, degree certificate, publication list, research plan, and (if applicable) teaching portfolio. Letters of reference can be arranged as part of the application process. For further information, contact Professor Ebbe Sloth Andersen at [email protected].
