About this position

Postdoctoral position in Multi-modal Foundation Models for Spatial Genomics at Uppsala University, Sweden.

This postdoctoral opening is hosted by the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology and the Vickovic Lab. The project sits at the intersection of computer science, biomedical engineering, biology, medical science, and quantitative methods, with a strong focus on multi-modal foundation models, spatial genomics, single-cell omics, spatial transcriptomics, imaging data, and genotypic data.

The successful candidate will develop new computational and deep learning methods for integrating large-scale spatially resolved RNA-seq, imaging, and genotype data. The role also involves working closely with experimental colleagues, coordinating across organizations, contributing to manuscripts and conference presentations, and supporting mentorship and training within the group. The lab welcomes candidates who can also propose their own ideas aligned with the broader research program.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in computer science, computer vision, bioengineering, computational neuroscience, applied mathematics, or an equivalent degree is required by the employment decision date. Applicants should have at least two first-author papers in journals with IF > 10, strong experience with modern high-throughput molecular technologies (RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, immunohistochemistry, CRISPR/Cas, short- and long-read sequencing), strong communication and scientific writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Funding/employment: temporary full-time employment for two years under a central collective agreement, with a possible one-year extension. The post is salaried (fixed pay); no stipend amount is listed.

Location: Uppsala, Sweden.

Deadline: 17 August 2026.

How to apply: submit the application through Uppsala University’s recruitment system via the job portal link. Contact Sanja Vickovic at sanja.vickovic@igp.uu.se for further information.
