About this position

Inria is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a project on neural mapping and a digital twin of a peripheral nerve to support functional electrical stimulation (FES) for movement restoration.

The work is carried out within the CAMIN team at Inria and in partnership with the IDH team at LIRMM. The research focuses on a multi-scale approach, from the effect of artificial electrical current on axonal ion channels to functional consequences on stimulated limb movement. A key objective is to develop an innovative method for nerve mapping and to localize fascicles by comparing model predictions with existing experimental observations, including EMG and movement data.

The position involves data formatting, development, algorithmic and mathematical work, scripting for an initial digital twin, subject-specific twin creation, performance evaluation, software development, dissemination, and publication. The role is strongly oriented toward computational neuroscience, biomedical modeling, optimization, and analysis of physiological signals and movement data.

Requirements: PhD or equivalent, recently graduated profile, training in neuroscience, experience in modeling, strong skills in EMG and movement data analysis, and familiarity with optimization methods. Interest in clinical applications such as neuroprosthetics is emphasized.

Location: Montpellier, France, at the Inria Centre of Université Côte d’Azur.

Contract and funding: Fixed-term contract for 1 year and 6 months, with a salary of 2788 € gross per month and standard Inria benefits.

Deadline: 2026-10-17. Applications must be submitted online via the Inria website.

Contact: Olivier Rossel ([email protected]) and Sofiane Ramdani are listed as supervisors/contacts.
