About this position
Inria is advertising a postdoctoral position in statistical causal inference for clinical trial emulation and reweighting in oncology. The project is part of the research chair “Intelligence Artificielle et Recherche Clinique en oncologie” within the Inria HeKA team (Inria–Inserm–Université Paris Cité).
The research aims to develop statistical and machine learning methods to estimate treatment effects in a target population by combining clinical trial data with real-world data (medical records, hospital warehouses, registries). The postdoc will focus on emulating and reweighting clinical trials in oncology, with particular attention to rare cancers such as biliary cancers.
Main topics include Horvitz-Thompson and IPTW weighting methods, target trial emulation, survival analysis, and possible deep learning extensions for multimodal and survival data. The successful candidate will review the methodological literature, develop and validate methods, identify limitations of these approaches in oncology, and propose operational recommendations. A reproducible open-source software package is also expected.
The position is based in Paris, France, at the Inria Center of Paris. It is a fixed-term contract for 2 years, starting 2026-12-01. Travel to scientific conferences is expected and travel costs will be reimbursed according to the applicable rules.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD or equivalent in statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, or a related field; strong causal inference and survival analysis skills; programming in R and/or Python; and good reproducible software practices (Git, open-source packages). English fluency is required; French is helpful but not mandatory.
Applications must be submitted online on the Inria website. The deadline is 2026-10-10. The contact person listed is Agathe Guilloux ([email protected]).
