About this position

Postdoctoral position in Translational Mucosal Biology and Colorectal Cancer at the University of Gothenburg, Institute of Biomedicine, in the research group of George Birchenough within the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine (WCMTM).

The project investigates how goblet cell-intrinsic mucosal defence systems influence susceptibility to colorectal cancer (CRC). The work combines pre-clinical mouse models with analysis of human tissue samples from healthy and CRC patients, with a strong translational biology focus.

Relevant research interests include mucosal biology, microbiota-host interactions, immunology, cancer biology, and experimental methods such as organoid culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, microbiology, bioinformatics, and in vivo disease modelling.

The position is full-time and temporary for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Salary is set individually by the university. The post is based at the Institute of Biomedicine in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Eligibility requires a doctoral degree (or equivalent) completed before appointment. Candidates should normally have finished the PhD within the last three years, unless special grounds apply. Strong written and spoken English and previous experience with animal models are essential; additional experience in microscopy, mass spectrometry, organoid culture, flow cytometry, microbiology, bioinformatics, or in vivo disease modelling is advantageous.

To apply, use the University of Gothenburg recruitment portal and submit a cover letter, CV with publications, proof of PhD, and at least two references. The application deadline is 2026-08-27.
