About this position
Two postdoctoral positions are open in the project Cell-level Blood Flow Simulation Upscaled (CellBloUp), a 3-year collaboration between Johannes Kepler University Linz in Austria and the University of Geneva in Switzerland.
Position 1 is based at JKU Linz with Mahdi Saeedipour. The research focuses on high-fidelity numerical simulation of deformable red blood cells, dense RBC-laden flows, immersed boundary methods, and CFD-DEM coupling. This role is especially relevant for candidates in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Biology with strong interests in fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, and biological flows.
Position 2 is based at the Department of Computer Science, University of Geneva, with Jonas Latt. It focuses on advanced numerical solver development in modern C++ and Python for high-performance computing, GPU programming, and large-scale physical simulations, with emphasis on CFD, fluid-structure interaction, software engineering, and the preCICE coupling library.
Applicants should hold a PhD/Doctorate in a relevant field. For the JKU role, experience with C++, Python, scientific computing, parallel CFD, OpenFOAM, Palabos, immersed boundary methods, or lattice Boltzmann methods is advantageous. For the Geneva role, experience with HPC, GPU programming, code profiling, and robust software development is important. Strong English skills are required; German is not required.
The positions are full-time and 3 years in duration. The JKU position is funded by the FWF project CellBloUp and includes a minimum salary of €5,014.30 gross per month (14x per year, collective agreement B1). The Geneva position is also a postdoctoral opening, but no salary is stated in the post.
Deadline: 2026-07-31. Apply via the JKU job portal for Position 1, and by email to [email protected] for Position 2.
