About this position

The Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (Inserm), in collaboration with the Deutsches Zentrum für Diabetesforschung (DZD), announces a call for applications for two postdoctoral positions in diabetes research. This France–Germany cooperation program aims to address the growing global public health challenge posed by diabetes, which is influenced by lifestyle, nutritional, environmental, and genetic factors. The initiative is designed to foster high-level scientific collaboration between French and German research teams, supporting innovative approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diabetes.

Successful candidates will conduct a two-year postdoctoral research project hosted in Inserm laboratories in France, working closely with a German team affiliated with DZD. The research scope includes, but is not limited to, Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, diabetes-related complications, and the development of innovative therapeutic, diagnostic, or technological tools. Projects may be fundamental, translational, or clinical in nature and can involve the joint use of data, biobanks, and cohorts to advance the field.

Applicants must have obtained a PhD within the last four years (preferably in Germany, but all nationalities are welcome) and are encouraged to submit proposals that demonstrate scientific excellence, feasibility, and relevance to the objectives of the host Inserm laboratory. Applications from women scientists are strongly encouraged. The selection process will be based on the scientific excellence of the candidate, the quality and impact of the proposed research, and the adequacy of the host laboratory environment.

The funding package includes a two-year postdoctoral salary ranging from €53,000 to €62,000 gross per year, funded by Inserm. This covers salary costs only; host laboratories must secure and document additional funding for project implementation, such as operating costs and consumables. Applications must be submitted in English as a single PDF file (less than 2MB) and include an application form, research project, CV, and letters of support from both the host Inserm laboratory and the German collaborator.

The application deadline is June 5, 2026 (5 pm), with results announced at the end of June 2026. The expected start date for the positions is preferably September 2026. For more information and to access the application portal, visit the Inserm application page. For inquiries, contact [email protected].
