About this position
The CeMM Pre-ERC Postdoc Program at the Medical University of Vienna and CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine is recruiting postdoctoral researchers in the fields of systems biology, immunity, cancer, bioinformatics, biomedical machine learning, artificial intelligence, CRISPR, single-cell analysis, spatial biology, and cell programming. The program is designed for ambitious scientists aiming to pursue independent research careers and competitive grants such as the ERC Starting Grant.
Three main candidate profiles are sought: (1) experimental systems biology in immunity or cancer, (2) bioinformatics and biomedical ML/AI, and (3) technology development and bioengineering (including CRISPR, single-cell, spatial, and cell programming). Candidates with expertise in any combination of these areas are encouraged to apply. The group welcomes applicants from both wet-lab and computational backgrounds, including those interested in organoids, mouse models, or methods development in ML/AI.
The research group, led by Christoph Bock, is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, with a strong focus on advancing molecular medicine. Recent research highlights include immune regulation by non-immune cells, CRISPR-optimized CAR T cell immunotherapy, epigenetic tumor heterogeneity, high-content CRISPR screening, and chat-based single-cell data analysis. More information about ongoing projects and research interests can be found at bocklab.org and med-ai.org.
The CeMM Pre-ERC Postdoc Program offers a fully funded, competitive training environment with individualized mentoring, expert-led seminars, and hands-on supervision. The program is based in Vienna, Austria, and is supported by institutional partners including the Medical University of Vienna and the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute. The current application call is for the spring session, with a deadline of August 1, 2026.
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field and a strong track record in research. Creativity, ambition, and the ability to propose an independent research direction are highly valued. For further details and to apply, visit the official program page at cemm.at/postdoc-program and the application portal linked in the announcement.
