About this position

Two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are available at The University of Western Australia in the area of agriculture, plant–microbe interactions, microbial ecology, soil health, and crop disease management. The role sits within a multidisciplinary, internationally connected research team focused on improving agricultural productivity and sustainability through microbiome-based approaches.

The successful candidate will contribute to research programs integrating microbiomes for sustainable agriculture, with work spanning plant–microbial interactions, metabolomics, RNAi, and soil systems. Responsibilities include producing peer-reviewed publications and synthesis papers, supporting externally funded projects, engaging with growers and other industry stakeholders, and contributing to data management, team initiatives, and postgraduate activities.

This is a full-time fixed-term appointment for 3.5 years at Level A, with a base salary range of $83,499–$112,371 per annum (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation. The position is research-focused and offers strong mentorship, increasing autonomy, and the opportunity to build a recognised research profile in a research-intensive university environment.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD or near completion in soil science, plant science, microbial ecology, or a related discipline; a strong publication record; and experience in microbiome research, metabolomics and/or RNAi in soil or plant systems. Collaborative research experience and industry engagement are desirable. A current National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, and C class driver’s licence may be required.

Application deadline: 19 July 2026 at 11:55 PM AWST. Apply online via the UWA jobs portal and submit a separate document addressing the selection criteria. For questions, contact Brajesh Singh at [email protected].
