About this position
Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Liverpool in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, working in Professor Sheng Qi’s research group.
The project is a BRITE Pump Prime-funded translational research role focused on biomedical engineering, bioengineering, biomaterials, regenerative medicine, and related areas. The research aims to develop a contact lens-based regenerative cell therapy for the treatment of Persistent Corneal Epithelial Defect (PCED). The work involves design, fabrication, and evaluation of an advanced contact lens platform to support delivery of regenerative cells and promote corneal repair.
This is a multidisciplinary post at the interface of biomaterials, cell therapy, pharmaceutical sciences, and medical device development, with an emphasis on generating proof-of-concept data for future translational and commercialisation activities. The role is full-time and fixed term until July 2027, with the post available from October 2026 for 9 months.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomaterials Science, Regenerative Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tissue Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Experience in cell culture, biomaterials development, medical device research, regenerative medicine approaches, and/or translational biomedical research is expected. Experience in ocular drug delivery, contact lens technologies, advanced therapeutics, or cell-based therapies would be advantageous.
Deadline: 1 September 2026. Apply through the University of Liverpool recruitment portal.
