About this position
Rutgers University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for Urban Policy Research / Rutgers Center Green Building in New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States. The role supports externally funded projects focused on building decarbonization, grid decarbonization, and the broader energy transition.
The postdoctoral associate will work with a team of about 20 researchers on projects funded by agencies such as the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Science Foundation. Research activities may include research design, fieldwork, data science, simulation modeling, writing, and presentations. The work sits at the intersection of engineering, economics, public policy, urban planning, and architecture, with a strong emphasis on buildings and energy systems.
Possible responsibilities include advanced energy modeling for energy efficiency, demand flexibility, and electrification; community-scale modeling for high-performance buildings and geothermal systems; analysis of technical and non-technical barriers to clean energy adoption; policy, code, and standards analysis; econometric analysis of utility rates and impacts on households; and preparation of peer-reviewed publications and public reports.
Eligibility: candidates must have completed all requirements for a PhD in building sciences, engineering, architecture, urban planning, energy or regulatory economics, public informatics, or a related field before hire. Strong quantitative and programming skills are expected, especially in Python and/or R, along with experience using tools such as EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, DesignBuilder, or UrbanOpt. Experience in energy policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and social science methods is preferred.
Funding: this is a paid full-time postdoctoral position with an annual salary of $70,000-$90,000, plus Rutgers benefits for eligible employees. The appointment may be renewable for a second year.
