About this position

Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Sydney for a project on carbon-neutral energy demand forecasting. The role sits across the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and is led by Prof. Gregor Verbic and Prof. Ali Abbas.

The project is ARC-funded and developed in partnership with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The successful candidate will help build and apply the DEEPSyM-Grid platform for precinct-scale modelling of clean energy demand and scenario analysis for Australia’s energy transition. Research themes include energy systems, demand modelling, agent-based modelling, energy systems optimisation, techno-economic forecasting, industrial decarbonisation, and energy economics.

Applicants should have a PhD or near completion in a relevant field such as power and energy systems, process systems engineering, industrial decarbonisation, or energy economics. Strong programming skills in Julia, Python, or Matlab, data analysis, probabilistic modelling, and experience with tools such as PLEXOS are desirable. The role also values independent research ability, publication experience, and strong communication skills.

This is a full-time, 3-year fixed-term postdoctoral appointment with a base salary of $113,634–$125,896 plus 17% superannuation. Applications close on 2026-11-19.

Apply via the job page using the Apply button and submit a cover letter, CV, and supporting documents. University of Sydney staff or contingent workers should apply through Workday. Contact [email protected] for confidential enquiries or reasonable adjustments.
