About this position
University of Cambridge is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate / Research Assistant fixed-term role based at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in the United Kingdom.
The project focuses on cochlear implants, speech perception, auditory neuroscience, and computational modelling. The successful candidate will investigate how to improve speech understanding in noisy environments by evaluating current-focusing methods that reduce channel interactions and improve neural excitation patterns across cochlear implant electrodes.
Research activities include behavioural and electro-physiological experiments with cochlear implant users, comparison with predictions from existing computational models of the auditory nerve, and analysis of how optimal stimulation patterns vary across users.
The role is supervised/worked on with Dr François Guérit and involves collaboration with Dr Robert P. Carlyon, Dr Charlotte Garcia, Pr Manohar Bance, and Pr Deborah Vickers.
Applicants must have or be close to obtaining a PhD in a relevant area such as psychology, cognitive neuroscience, engineering, physiology, or audiology. Experience with behavioural or EEG experiments involving cochlear implant users, programming skills, and a willingness to learn new technical methods are highly desirable.
This is a 2-year funded post supported by the Evelyn Trust. Salary depends on appointment level, and the university notes that applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
Deadline: 14 September 2026. Apply online through the Cambridge recruitment portal, upload a covering letter and CV, and include referee details. Quote reference SU50576.
