About this position
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Dallas, Texas within the Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture (IHA), Healthy Living program.
The position centers on a community-based, mixed-methods public health study funded by the NIH/NHLBI (R01HL180934) examining the effects of pay-what-you-can community restaurants on coronary heart disease-related outcomes among guests experiencing food insecurity and hypertension. The postdoc will work directly with Principal Investigator Dr. Alexandra (Lexi) MacMillan Uribe and contribute to data collection and analysis, presentations, publications, project conceptualization, and grant proposal development.
Research themes include health equity, health disparities, food access, food and nutrition insecurity, dietary patterns and behaviors, diet/food intervention development and evaluation, physical activity behaviors, policy/system/environmental change, citizen science, community-engaged research, and mHealth technologies. The study uses physiological outcomes such as blood pressure, blood lipids, blood glucose, and waist-to-height ratio, along with psychosocial and behavioral measures including diet quality, stress, food security, and nutrition security.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a related field (for example, nutrition or public health). Candidates with ABD status or all requirements completed but diploma pending may also be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience with human subjects research, data collection, qualitative and/or quantitative analysis, peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, and strong independent and collaborative working skills.
This is a 2-year appointment available immediately, with a preferred start date as soon as possible but flexible for the right candidate. Texas A&M AgriLife also notes customized professional development and training opportunities aimed at preparing the postdoc for a faculty career.
