About this position

University of Technology Sydney is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in concrete road pavement technologies, based in Sydney, Australia. The role supports a co-funded research program with Transport for New South Wales and the ARC NetZero Hub focused on developing a practical predictive framework for estimating early-age cracking risks in rigid concrete pavements.

The successful candidate will work on topics including concrete materials, early-age behavior, hydration, thermal effects, shrinkage, heat evolution, restraint, cracking risk, control-joint cutting timing, and mitigation of premature cracking and spalling. The position involves quantitative modeling, validation, uncertainty assessment, sensitivity analysis, and laboratory testing such as shrinkage, restrained ring, temperature rise, maturity, strength, creep, and elastic property experiments.

Eligibility highlights: PhD or near completion in Civil Engineering, Pavement Engineering, or a closely related field; strong research outputs; familiarity with Australian standards/specifications and/or road-agency experience; and the ability to deliver research tasks, reporting, and stakeholder-facing outputs on deadline. Project management experience is desirable.

Funding and conditions: Full-time fixed-term appointment for two years at Level A, with a base salary of $97,955 to $119,303 per year plus 17% superannuation. Applicants must be Australian Permanent Residents or Australian Citizens; visa sponsorship is not available.

How to apply: Submit your application through the UTS online recruitment system. Include a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) addressing the selection criteria and a resume. Make sure each document includes IRC347040 and your name. Closing date: 29 September 2026 at 11:59 PM AEST.
