Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Condensed Matter Theory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA.

This opportunity is centered on computational materials science, condensed matter physics, quantum materials, and AI/ML-driven materials discovery. The project aims to develop cutting-edge computational methods that combine electronic structure theory and artificial intelligence to study advanced quantum materials.

Research topics include first-principles electronic structure calculations, Quantum Monte Carlo (QMCPACK, PYQMC), Density Functional Theory (Quantum ESPRESSO, VASP, PySCF), and AI/ML approaches for understanding electronic, magnetic, vibrational, and topological properties of DOE-relevant advanced materials.

Eligibility requires a PhD completed within the last 5 years in computational/theoretical condensed matter physics, theoretical chemistry, theoretical materials science, or a closely related field. Applicants should have experience in computational modeling of electronic and magnetic properties. Preferred strengths include a strong publication record, experience with Quantum Monte Carlo or other many-body ab initio methods, knowledge of AI and machine learning for materials research, and strong communication/collaboration skills.
