About this position
University of Strathclyde’s Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the ARIA-funded CoreShell Fibre Foundry programme.
The project focuses on computational chemistry, molecular simulation, coarse-grained molecular dynamics, protein assemblies, and materials modelling. The successful candidate will develop high-throughput analysis workflows for coarse-grained MD trajectories of candidate protein assemblies, extracting physically meaningful descriptors such as curvature, lumen dimensions, scaffold and tube stability, packing order, aggregation state, interfacial organisation, and assembly persistence.
You will work in an interdisciplinary team of computational chemists, machine-learning researchers, protein scientists, and engineers. The role includes building robust Python pipelines, generating descriptor datasets for predictive and active-learning models, comparing simulations with microscopy and scattering data, and contributing to publications, presentations, and research-data management.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in computational chemistry, molecular simulation, physics, biophysics, materials modelling, computational biology, mathematics, or a closely related field; strong Python skills; experience with quantitative descriptors from molecular or structural data; and experience handling large trajectory datasets. Experience with Martini or related coarse-grained force fields, GROMACS, VMD, MDAnalysis, OVITO, HPC, structural-order analysis, or machine-learning datasets is desirable.
Funding and terms: full-time, fixed-term appointment for 12 months, with salary £39,906–£46,049. The post runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027.

What's required
