About this position

Ruhr University Bochum is advertising a postdoctoral research associate position in Data Science in Chemistry at the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry II (Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis). The group works on organometallic synthesis chemistry, homogeneous catalysis, quantum-chemical calculations, automated analysis of chemical data, and machine learning for predicting reactivity, selectivity, and yield.

The successful candidate will contribute to quantum chemistry, machine learning, chemistry-specific data science, and model development/validation. Tasks include reaction-mechanism calculations, extracting physicochemical properties, building structure–activity models, analyzing data statistically, visualizing results, collaborating with experimentalists, supervising students, writing publications and grant proposals, and supporting teaching in Data Science and Machine Learning.

Eligibility highlights: completed university degree and preferably a PhD in Chemistry; applicants from related fields such as Data Science or Computer Science are also welcome if they have demonstrable chemistry knowledge. Required experience includes ORCA, Multiwfn, AIM and similar quantum-chemical tools; Python and libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, pandas, Scikit-learn, RDKit, and PyTorch; research project management; publishing/presenting scientific results; teaching and student supervision; fluent English. German is helpful but not mandatory.

Funding and terms: full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years at 100% TV-L E13. The post is based at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. The posting notes that application/interview travel costs are not reimbursed.
