About this position
University of Exeter is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Digital Humanities, 3D modelling, and cultural heritage research. The post supports Prof Fabrizio Nevola and the project Serious 3D in Art and Architectural History (SERIOUS3D), funded by the AHRC and DFG.
The successful candidate will work on the digital reconstruction of the Palazzo Medici (Florence) and help link research data to the 3D model. The role is especially suited to applicants with experience in Blender, H-BIM, photogrammetry, immersive design, visualization, semantic web technologies, and standards such as RDF, SPARQL, OWL, and preferably CIDOC-CRM. Experience with Java and web development (JavaScript, HTML5) is highly desirable.
Applicants should hold a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field and be able to communicate research progress clearly, both orally and in writing. The post is full-time and fixed-term from 2 November 2026 to 31 October 2027, with a starting salary from £34,610 on Grade E.

Required expertise includes 3D modelling, particularly Blender, familiarity with H-BIM, photogrammetry, immersive design and visualization for cultural heritage/humanities research contexts. Software development experience in Java and web application development (JavaScript, HTML5, etc.) is highly preferred.
