About this position
Postdoctoral Research Associate in EPR and Magnetism of Molecular Spin Qubits at The University of Manchester, Department of Chemistry.
This is a 2.5-year fixed-term research associate position focused on transition metal molecular spin qubits, pulse EPR spectroscopy, magnetism, quantum information science, and the characterization of d-block metal complexes. The project is funded by a UKRI grant and is managed by Dr Floriana Tuna, with close collaboration with the University of Rhode Island (Huh group) and Brown University (Robinson group).
The successful candidate will work with the UK National EPR Facility at Manchester, including access to cw and pulse EPR (1–34 GHz), rapid scan, light-induced EPR, and SQUID magnetometry. The role involves producing publishable results on electronic structure and coherence properties, coordinating with synthesis and calculation teams, supervising junior researchers, and presenting findings at international conferences.
Eligibility highlights: candidates should have or expect to obtain a PhD in chemistry, physics, or a closely related field. Strong experience in advanced spectroscopic and/or magnetic measurements is required; EPR experience, glove box work, handling air-sensitive samples, d/f block chemistry, and broader characterization/calculation skills are highly desirable.
Funding and terms: salary £37,694–£46,049 per annum depending on experience; contract duration 30 months; start date 1 February 2027 or soon after.
Application deadline: 18 November 2026.
How to apply: submit an application via the University of Manchester jobs portal using job reference SAE-032615. Review the further particulars/person specification and apply before midnight on the closing date.
