About this position

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in grid modeling, with a focus on electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation, power systems, power electronics, and inverter modeling.

The position sits in the Grid Transients & Advanced Modeling Group within the Electrification and Energy Infrastructure Division (EEID) of the Energy Science and Technology Directorate (ESTD). The work involves developing EMT models for transmission and distribution grids, synchronous generators, large loads, and transmission networks; building simulation algorithms for large-scale studies; integrating grid component models into open-source tools; and adding post-processing automation for simulations.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering or a related discipline completed within the last five years. Required experience includes C/C++, Matlab, Python, and power systems software such as PSCAD and PSS/e. Preferred experience includes software development, GPUs or multi-core CPUs, advanced computing, and strong communication skills.

The appointment is up to 24 months with possible extension, depending on performance and funding availability. ORNL offers competitive pay and benefits. The post is located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States.
