About this position

Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Sydney in Camperdown, New South Wales, Australia. This is a full-time fixed-term role for 2 years within the Sydney School of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

The project is a large-scale, interdisciplinary research program focused on transforming how low back pain is managed across Australia. The successful candidate will contribute to two major projects: the Second Opinion Program, which evaluates a model to reduce unnecessary lumbar spine surgery and improve return-to-work outcomes, and Early Pain Intervention, which evaluates a physiotherapist-led model of early assessment and care coordination for people with persistent pain after lumbar spine surgery.

Research activities include clinical trial design and conduct, consumer and stakeholder co-design, implementation activities, data analysis, dissemination of findings, and collaboration with clinicians, consumers, researchers, and health system stakeholders. There are opportunities to contribute to high-impact publications, presentations, and future grant applications.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in musculoskeletal pain or a closely related field; a clinical health qualification such as physiotherapy, exercise physiology, or medicine; strong experience in clinical trials; and strong research, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience in implementation science, health services research, consumer co-design, and quantitative analysis is highly regarded.
