About this position

Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, United States, within the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine.

The Rued Laboratory is seeking a postdoc to contribute to interdisciplinary projects in microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, antimicrobial discovery, and diagnostic technologies. Research topics include regulation of streptococcal peptide systems, use of artificial intelligence to design novel antimicrobial peptides targeting Salmonella and Campylobacter, and validation of a rapid minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).

The successful candidate will design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, prepare manuscripts, present findings, and independently manage multiple projects. The role also includes supervising and mentoring graduate students and summer veterinary scholars.

Required: PhD in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.

Preferred: experience with DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, gene expression analysis, HPLC and/or Raman spectroscopy, BSL-2 bacterial organisms, peptide isolation/characterization/evaluation, peer-reviewed publications, and mentoring student researchers.
