About this position
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in College Station, Texas, United States, within the Department of Animal Science. The project sits in an active One Health research program focused on how bacterial stress responses and multispecies biofilm ecology contribute to the persistence of zoonotic foodborne pathogens, and how pre-harvest interventions can reduce these pathogens in beef on dairy production systems.
The role combines controlled laboratory experiments, environmental and animal-source sample processing, sequencing library preparation (16S and shotgun metagenomics), and downstream analysis in R or Python. The postdoc will also support environmental sampling in production settings, maintain data records, contribute to manuscripts and conference presentations, mentor students, and assist with grant reporting and proposal development.
Supervisor: Dr. Sapna Dass. Additional mentorship is provided by a Research Microbiologist at the USDA-ARS Food Safety Research Unit in Burlington, Vermont.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology, or a related field (or equivalent experience); hands-on bacterial culture and molecular microbiology; familiarity with microbiome/sequencing data; strong scientific writing; ability to work independently and collaboratively. Preferred experience includes biofilm models, multispecies communities, bacterial stress response assays, on-farm sampling in beef or dairy systems, and publications.
Funding and conditions: This is a grant- or contract-funded position with salary commensurate with qualifications. Continued employment depends on funding and performance. The position is not remote and does not offer employment visa sponsorship.
How to apply: Apply via the Workday link and submit the required application materials: CV/resume, cover letter, and list of references. If your doctorate has not yet been conferred, include an official letter from your graduate office/registrar/PhD committee chair confirming completion of requirements and the conferral date.
